Marnie with Compassion in Peru

People in the United States often wonder, "Are there really children receiving the funds collected by Compassion on their behalf?"

It may surprise you to learn that Compassion children sometimes wonder if there are really "sponsors" behind the support and letters they receive. Every child dreams of the day their sponsor might come to visit them.

The sea of little ones surrounding Marnie in this photo had dressed up to celebrate their first visit from "real live" sponsors. Since Compassion's Peru ministry is conducted wholly by nationals, there was great joy and excitement surrounding the visit of real sponsors from the US !

Marnie joined His Song, Point of Grace, the Martins and 15 others for a Compassion International Trip to Peru October 26-31. She came away saying,

"It is utterly mind-boggling how much $1 a day of our money
can do for a child, her family, church and community!"

If you have not already sponsored a child (or if you could find a way to sponsor another one), click HERE to get started today.

Marnie writes, "We visited several Compassion projects and met hundreds of Compassion-sponsored children whose lives have been radically changed, each because one sponsor cared enough to share with them individually. Compassion keeps track of over 48,000 children just in Peru and over 1 million children worldwide. The program is organized, cost efficient, accountable and God-honoring. I could not more highly recommend your participation in this amazing ministry of love!"

Dressed to Kill
(the Enemy!)

Airline Marketing VP, Vicki Foster, once dressed for an elegant evening party with the intent to look her best at the gala event. She was in the middle east and, according to the interpreter, was to be picked up by a limosuine from her hotel lobby at 7 PM for something special that was planned for the guests. She donned her little black dress, black hose and heels, painted her nails and made sure her hair was perfect.

After an hour-long ride in the limo to the party's location, she looked in horror as she was delivered to a beach party! When asked what she had done, she cooly replied, "I just made the best of it! I was thinking, 'I'm just really glad I didn't wear a bikini into a ballroom!'"

Sometimes Christians walk into a battle dressed in a bikini. If you think it's time for your women to better understood the importance of suiting up in spiritual armor, then host a retreat, event or Bible study along this theme! Personal Note from Marnie

Wow! You all must have been "seriously" brushing your teeth (while praying for me!) these past weeks: I can FEEL your prayers.

My whirlwind life turned into a tornado when our Espresso Shop manager resigned, in tears, with zero notice due to an emergency.

That left yours truly as the ONLY person who could run the cafe during the AM-3 PM shift. I loved it, but I had to continue doing all my other stuff too, which meant getting up at an outrageous time of day to coordinate with our support staff around the world. (I had previously been getting up at 5:30 a.m. to do this.)

To complicate things, our PM coffee shop gal broke her arm! So I needed to cover BOTH shifts - it was exhausting, to say the least!

But God... oh, I love that phrase. God provided a new manager and afternoon substitutes in time for them ALL to be trained in by October 25th, which enabled us to go on the trip to Peru with Compassion. The whole thing was miraculous!

During our first home visit into an 8x10 shack that was the shelter for a precious family of four, I looked around and then looked straight up. I thanked God for my beautiful house and, in the same breath, yielded it to Him*. I rejoiced in the provision of a God who can care for us in ANY way He chooses: whether in a mansion or a mud hut!

My experience this month is just one little story. Someday you and I will sit it in heaven and talk about how we had partnered with God through the MANY stories of our lives so that HIStory could be told for His glory for all eternity!

Oh, one more important praise report: Celebrate with me! My sister, Marla, completed her final radiation treatment last week. She is cancer-free and we are dancing in the streets!

Thanks for your prayers!

All my love,
Marnie Swedberg

*Even though we employ 30 people plus subcontractors, and even though it appears to the casual observer that we are raking in money hand-over-fist, life is not always as it appears. Due to the financial strain on our family during this economic downturn, we are getting ready to put our home on the market. When God sends a buyer, we will move into the warehouse space above our retail store (thus eliminating duplicate expenses like phone, internet, lights, heat, etc.). Your financial partnership over the years has helped us keep this ministry alive and we are just going to keep trusting God for every detail of our future and yours!
